Ampthill Great Park and Kings Arm’s Garden was awarded the coveted Green Flag Award as they are officially recognised as one of the country’s best parks

In a record-breaking year Ampthill Great Park and Kings Arm’s Garden are raising its prestigious Green Flag Awards

Ampthill Town Council is celebrating after receiving Green Flag Awards for Ampthill Great Park and Kings Arm’s Garden one of 2208 UK winners.

The award is the international quality mark for parks and green spaces.

After two years that have seen our parks and green spaces play a vital role for people through lockdowns as a place to relax, exercise and meet friends and family safely, the news that Ampthill Great Park and Kings Arm‘s Garden have achieved the Green Flag Award is testament to the hard work and dedication of the team that make the Park and Garden a great space that everyone can enjoy.

Ampthill Great Park has also achieved the Green Heritage Site Accreditation, supported by Historic England, for the management of its historic features.

Commenting on the awards Town Mayor Councillor Jake Bishop said “I’m delighted that the council have received the recognition for the way the park is managed, maintained and used by the wider community. We know how much the Park is appreciated and we will continue to do everything we can to protect its heritage and improve the facilities for everyone”. “Kings Arm’s Garden is a delightful woodland garden in the centre of the town. It is almost entirely managed by a knowledgeable and dedicated team of volunteers whom I’d like to thank and congratulate on their achievement”

Commenting on the news that Ampthill Great Park and Kings Arm’s Gardens has met the Green Flag Award standard, Keep Britain Tidy’s Accreditation Manager Paul Todd said: “I would like to congratulate everyone involved in making Ampthill Great Park worthy of a Green Flag Award.

“Ampthill Great Park and Kings Arm’s Gardens are vital green spaces for the community in Ampthill. This award is testament to all the hard work of staff and volunteers, who do so much to ensure that it maintains the high standards demanded by the Green Flag Award.”

The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
